Literary devices and techniques
Character- individuals that play a part in the story, movie,
book, ect.
Main character (protagonist)- The individual that plays the
biggest or most important part of the story
Minor character- individuals that take a smaller part in the
story
Dynamic character- when the main character changes from scene
to scene
Static character- when the main character stays the same.
Setting-the place where events or events take place in the story
Plot- a chain of events that are related in the story
Exposition- gives the most important background images in the
story
Inciting Incident- to provoke
Rising Action- difficulties that happen during a story that
usually leads to something worse
Climax the part of the story when characters make a decision
about the problem at hand.
Falling Action- the difficult problem that is usually solved
so the tension in the story dies down
Denouement (Resolution)- problems in the story are usually solved
in the part
Theme- an important message that the other puts in the story
to bring in the reader
Charecterization-
- A description of qualities or peculiarities: a list of places of interest, with brief characterizations of each.
- Representation of a character or characters on the stage or in writing, especially by imitating or describing actions,
gestures, or speeches.
symbols-
- Something that represents something else by association, resemblance, or convention, especially a material object used
to represent something invisible. See Synonyms at sign.
- A printed or written sign used to represent an operation, element, quantity, quality, or relation, as in mathematics or
music.
3. Psychology. An object or image that an individual unconsciously
uses to represent repressed thoughts, feelings, or impulses: a phallic symbol.
irony-
- An expression or utterance marked by a deliberate contrast between apparent and intended meaning.
- A literary style employing such contrasts for humorous or rhetorical effect
